There is a diverse array of African artists producing some of the best music and putting the continent on the musical map.

With Forbes focussing on riches, they have compiled a list of the top 10 African artists according to their earnings.

Brand value, earnings, endorsements bookings and social media presence all contribute to an artist’s ‘net worth.’

The age of the Internet has allowed African artists to distribute their music on an international scale bringing about more exposure and in turn more opportunity for them to succeed and reach wider audiences.

A-listers from around the world are sampling African music and Afrobeat has become urbanised. It’s an incredible time for African music and African artists to show the world how capable they are. I mean Africa is the heart of the drum.

On the Southern tip, we are rocking it

So, the list is out and we see our South African stars Black Coffee and Hugh Masekela sitting comfortably in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively- right behind Akon.

Award winning Producer and DJ Black Coffee has not only promoted African music [and African artists] around the world but has put it on the world map.

He has been touring oversees, even playing at Coachella and has now scored a recording deal with Ultra Records in the USA.

Hugh Masekela is a legend of note, wowing audiences with his trumpet for 50 years and has played with the likes of Marvin Gaye, Dizzy Gillespie, The Byrds and many others.
